The Yellowstone universe continues to grow, and the recently announced Dutton Ranch series has many fans eager to see where the story goes next.
Here in Sonoma County, the name “Dutton Ranch” always catches our attention.
While the ranch portrayed in the Yellowstone series exists in the fictional world of Montana television drama, the real Dutton Ranch vineyards are located right here in California’s Russian River Valley, where the Dutton family has been farming grapes for generations.

At Dutton-Goldfield Winery, our connection to the Dutton family goes back to our very first vintage in 1998. Since the beginning, fruit from vineyards farmed by the Dutton family has played a central role in the wines we produce.
So when we saw the announcement of the upcoming series, we couldn’t help but smile. The name might belong to television in one place, but in Sonoma County it belongs to a long tradition of vineyard and organic apple farming.
The Real Dutton Ranch in Sonoma County
The vineyards associated with Dutton Ranch are spread throughout the Russian River Valley, particularly around the town of Sebastopol and the cool coastal subregion known as Green Valley.
This area is famous for producing exceptional Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, thanks to the cooling influence of the Pacific Ocean. Morning fog and moderate temperatures allow grapes to ripen slowly, developing vibrant acidity and layered flavors that define Russian River Valley wines.
Today, vineyards farmed by the Dutton family supply grapes to more than 80 wineries, making them one of the most respected vineyard sources in Sonoma County.
